Canterlot. The home to many, the elite, those hoping to make it big, the tourists. It was at times, deceptively large. The castle provided a large land mark and could be seen throughout most of the city, which caused some of the sense of size. This was a place a pony could find most anything. Clothing boutiques, jewelry shops, other brands of gifts to give to that somepony special, or even just to buy for themselves. If just to be able to say that they had gotten something from Canterlot.
Those living there generally either lived in grand mansions or lived in apartments, whose rent raised with the quality. A pony could live in a very nice house indeed in any other town for the bits it took to rent a two bedroom apartment within a cart’s ride to the main parts of town. Near the outskirts of Canterlot, which could perhaps even be considered a suburb of the city, was the Gateway. It housed a few deceptively large apartments for a decent price, willing to make a deal with any one (hey took any and all that paid) who would be willing to trade in some of their trade, for those who did business in the city.
Walking through these narrow streets to the Gateway, a unicorn fiddled with his key and slotted it into the keyhole in the door. His horn flickered for a second and then the key turned and he swept into the room, placing his bag on a hook by the door. His apartment was rather sparse, a table and chair off to the side next to a book shelf filled with books. A tiny kitchen could be seen through a door way next to a staircase that lead both upstairs and downstairs. He paused in the doorway, taking a deep breath, before bursting out in a grin and doing a happy little jig, before stroking a hoof over his cutiemark, a bottle of perfume.
“That couldn’t have gone better,” he smiled.
